The playmat has been a really nice space for Will. Reaching and grabbing on to the chicken hasn't been a problem, but what he really enjoys is hearing the overhead bell ringing. He wasn't able to purposefully ring it though. Sometimes he would accidentally kick/hit it, but most of the time he was waiting for Mommy or Daddy to ring the bell for him.
Earlier in the week we put a hippo with a bell in it by where his feet sit, and he seemed to like being able to make noise with that.
But, earlier today he was able to hit the bell hanging overhead repeatedly and with purpose. He's clearly entertained by it, but I think we sound more excited than him about it.
