We are home

Will had a very busy and exciting day at the hospital. Lots of visits, tests, and the wonderful news that he and Mom got to go home. We left in the early evening, and Will made sure that everybody knew he was leaving the hospital. Except for moving in the elevator when he was nice and quiet. He LOVED moving in the elevator and the car ride home.

Will is adapting to his new environment and we are happy to have our own bed to sleep in. Here are a few pictures from the trip home.

Will is a Swedish Baby

No, there isn't a change in our ancestry. Will was born at Swedish Ballard Hospital. We haven't talked a lot about the labor/birth thus far, and we may get into that in more detail later. However, we do want to say how great our experience with everybody here has been. From the midwives, nurses, everybody... just so supportive and helpful with all our questions, etc. One of the additional services is that they have a contract with a local photographer to come to your room and do newborn pictures. Here are a few of them and you can see the rest online at http://www.bellababyphotography.com/ if you want. Just contact us and we'll send you the password.

Grandma visits

After a longer than expected trip from Kennewick, WA (thanks to an hour plus long delay of no movement due to an accident ahead), Grandma made it on Sunday evening to see her new grandson. She was very happy to see him and enjoyed cuddling with him.

I went with her for some late night non-hospital food and dropped her off at our house. Upon returning to the hospital, it was diaper changing time. Big dirty diaper and big mistake by me. After taking the diaper off, I realized that I forgot to wet the wipes to use. I turned to do that and when I turned back around Will was firehosing himself, the changing table, and the floor (not the first time I'm sure). He was quite happy with himself. Lesson learned.

Awakening from a nap

We managed to take this video of Will awakening from a nap after doing a great job escaping my swaddling attempt. Although in my defense it did keep him in there and sleeping well for more than 2 hours.

Will's first bath

Will had his first last night. It's probably the most we've heard him cry thus far. I'm become adept at calming him down when he does get upset, as well as changing diapers. Catherine and Will are doing wonderfully at feeding. They both are naturals at it.

I went home for about an hour to clean myself up and grab a few more clothes since labor took us a little longer than we expect, hence a longer hospital stay. I also grabbed some more food for myself as I ran out of his snacks/sandwiches. Two hospital meals were way to bland for my taste.

Catherine is up and about now, which is fantastic. She and Will are taking a nap now, and I'm about to join them. Will's grandma and my mom, Nancy, will be arriving in the early evening. Will's other grandma and Catherine's mom, Carol, will be getting to Seattle a few days after that. All three of us can't wait to see them.

He arrives!!!

William Allan Konopka arrived Saturday, June 26th at 4:48 PM. He was born at 8 pounds, 20 inches. Both Catherine and Will are doing very well, and Michael can't be prouder. We are all very happy. When we have time (don't laugh) we'll put up some more pictures with him, but here are a few to tide you over until then.

The beginning of the blog...

As we wait for Munchkin to arrive, we've decided that the best way to pass along videos and pictures without completely flooding everybody's mail boxes is to utilize this blog so that you can see everything at your own leisure. We have no idea how good we will be at updating everything, but we hope that we can at least provide you with timely pictures and such as the time passes.
