Preparing for Halloween

We started preparing for Halloween since we are leaving in a couple of days to spend the weekend with Catherine's sister Cindy and her family in the Bay Area. We tried on the pumpkin costume that Grandma made. We think he looks cute in it. We'll be going as farmers as we carry around our little pumpkin.

Will also got a Halloween card from Grandpa and Grandma. With a little help he was able to rip open the envelop and then did a great job displaying the card...
... until he thought he would check out how the card tasted.

One other recent event was that we moved Will into his own room. Up until this point we had him sleeping in our room in a cosleeper. Will had started waking up every hour or so after being pretty good about only getting up for two feedings at night. We set up the crib and moved him into his own room. If he got up early, we decided we were going to do some sleep training and let him cry it out. First night he was up early, it was 15 minutes and he was back asleep. Second night it was 5 minutes and he was back asleep. Now he is back to a normal sleeping schedule, so what we tried worked for us.

Working out

Will has been getting a lot of practice at grabbing and pulling objects. He's doing so well that he can even do it in his sleep.

He's even taking steps to build his upper body strength by doing a few pull down every now and then.

And when he's done, he has time to support some of his favorite teams, like the Colts (no Bears shirts yet)

Will serenades us with song

After keeping Will out later than his normal bedtime yesterday for the Sounders game, Will repaid us by waking up at his normal time and an extra long morning nap. Not bad. Once he got up, he decided to demonstrate his singing skills. Clearly he got his "talent" from Daddy's singing "ability".

Don't have a Wisconsin shirt for Will yet, but he was decked out in red for the Badger game versus Ohio State. Way to go Wisconsin!

Bundled up for the Sounders

Today we had the last regular season Sounders game and Will was such a good boy even though we kept him out past his normal bedtime. We met our friends Brian and Lily for dinner before the match and we all walked over to the game. The weather has cooled off, and with this being a night game it required some bundling up. Will stayed nice and warm thanks to the fleece suit and homemade hat we got as gifts. He even slept through a good part of the game, but we expect that on Saturday we may "pay" for disrupting his schedule.

Pay attention or the chicken gets it

Will has been making it to his side, but he hasn't rolled over yet. We think he really doesn't enjoy any time on his tummy, so the internal monologue is telling him "why would I ever want to do that."

He will use getting on his side to look at stuff around him or play with his favorite toys (or conversely using his favorite toys to help himself up). His chicken and bell are his preferred targets.

This weekend we had a brunch get together with the other families in our Centering Group from Swedish Hospital. It was great to see how all the babies had grown in about 3 months. Will looked very cute in his Oshkosh B'Gosh overalls.

Finally, a look at the blocks that Catherine made for Will. Very nicely done.

Arms are for support

I guess I should have waited a day to talk about Will's new accomplishments. Today during tummy time was the first time he really got his arms underneath his body and used them to hold himself up.

Will's new trick- the foot grab

Will has been working toward it, but in the last week Will started grabbing his feet (which means he's now trying to put them in his mouth). In fact, he seems to devote most of his time working on doing just that.

It doesn't matter if it's a laying or seated position, he'll start reaching for them. If we hold him in a seated position, he'll reach down toward his feet. If we put him in the swing or bouncy, he'll try to sit up and go for the feet...

Will and a Seattle sports week

We figure that Will is going to be introduced/taken to a number of sporting events and this week was no exception. On Thursday we went to the Mariners-A's game with the University of Washington Postdoc Association. Mom and Will found a quiet corner on the last row of the stadium to see if a little nap would be a possibility.

Will was up for the 7th inning stretch though. No rally caps (or rally fries) could help the M's though as they neared that 100th loss.

Will did pretty well despite us keeping him out past his bedtime. Luckily the next match was a midday Sounders game on Saturday. A good day to use the Ergo. Catherine had somebody stop her in the concourse and ask where she found one in "Sounders colors". Will was so content in it that we didn't try the Baby Bjorn facing forward. Maybe for the next game.

The Sounders won the match and are on their way to the playoffs. Still don't have any Sounders gear for Will, but he sported his Ajax Amsterdam onesie for the match.
